Car For Sale – 1938 Dodge Model D9
Description: For sale is a 1938 Dodge Sedan in generally original condition, a ‘one family car’ from new. It has Victorian registration (284 748) and features a reconditioned 6-cylinder, 201.3 cubic inch side valve motor. The car retains its original paintwork and running gear, except for the four mudguards which have been resprayed due to paint wear. The interior has been completely reupholstered in leather, staying true to the car’s original theme.
History:
- First registered on 24 December 1938 by Claude Zucker from St Kilda Road, Melbourne – original owner’s registration certificate is still available.
- Sold to Monots Motors, Castlemaine on 2 November 1940.
- Sold to Mrs. Rose Hill of Harcourt (my grandmother) on 6 December 1940.
- Transferred to Mr. Richard Hill of Essendon (my father) on 20 December 1945.
- Motor replaced in 1956; original motor was put in storage.
- Vehicle deregistered in 1962 and stored in a weatherproof shed in Colac.
- During 1999, I performed general maintenance on the mechanics, the car was completely reupholstered, and the four mudguards were repainted as the original paintwork was worn down to the undercoat in exposed areas.
- Passed a roadworthy and was reregistered on 4 June 1999. I was able to demonstrate a direct ownership line for the original registration to Vic Roads and was assigned the original registration number (284 748).
- Used as a second family car until 2012, when it was determined the motor needed reconditioning. The original motor was reconditioned by Norm McCullagh Engine Reconditioning (invoice and works completed list available) and reinstalled into the car.
- The car has always been garaged, spending the last 10 years at Peterborough, Victoria.
- The car has no rust and has had no panel damage during its history, remaining genuinely in original condition except for the upholstery.
- Comes with the original owner’s certificate, one original enamel registration plate, and a service manual.
- Includes many spare parts, including a complete engine, starter motor, generator, 6 dodge wheel hub covers, radiator, exhaust and intake manifold, complete front grill, 2 spare wheel rims, plus an assortment of other bits and pieces.
